Ice Dance

For those of you who don't know, ice dance is a combination of ballroom dance and Cirque du Soleil on ice while wearing crazy costumes. It deserves all the jokes.

I was a competitive ice dancer for most of my life, having started at age 4 (I'm told it was at my request), and not finishing until age 22. Learning to live without skating since 2008 has been a difficult experience, at times feeling like I'm wandering without purpose. I imagine this is true for most high-level competitive skaters.

I'm extremely grateful to those that guided me over the years to continue my education, sometimes at the expense of my skating. In the end, having a good education is the far safer bet than skating, and for the vast majority of skaters, is far more rewarding.

After taking some time off of coaching in 2009-2010 to get my graduate school applications and plans in order, I'm starting again July, 2010. While most of my attention is towards non-skating activities now, I do enjoy going to social dance get-togethers every so often and teaching people that are truely interested in learning dance.
